An elderly couple was brutally assaulted during a home invasion in the early hours of Friday morning. Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says at about 3 am, two suspects forced entry into the residence through a sliding door at the Wildlife Estate in Sardinia Bay. He says the 73-year-old man and his 68-year-old wife were assaulted with a panga and a wooden plank after they woke up when the alarm was triggered. Captain Beetge says both victims sustained severe head injuries and were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. The suspects, who only stole a cellphone, fled the scene.
